The Complete Book of Ayurvedic Home Remedies Based on the Timeless Wisdom of India 5 000YearOld Medical System Vasant Lad 9780609802861 Books Reviews

  • I'm still reading it, just wanted to give it five stars. Ayurveda is so special. All i'll say is my general impression as well as my impression of the doshas. You could summarize ayurveda as "removing accumulated toxins and straightening out diet", which ENTIRELY encompasses all the most down to earth successful knowledge about health

The reason I wanted to talk about the doshas is that, Imagine a world where ALL you knew was what went "into" your body, how it "felt", and what "came out" of your body. That is the entirety of how Ayurveda developed, and that is a sane approach to biology, right? There are just 3 doshas, and they certainly all refer to real forces in biology. Kapha refers to structure and lubrication, which sounds very vague, I know, but in ayurveda, what kapha usually refers to is nutritional deficiency, OR sufficiency. it's not some mysterious force, it's protein, fat, metals, vitamins... Pitta basically refers to digestion and metabolism, and how to not get too hot or too. The final dosha is Vata, which basically refers to Anything That Moves to promote health. It's an umbrella term whethever ayurveda realizes it or not. It goes for Chi flow, anything that moves via the blood, and avoiding lifestyle/dietary habits that might cause pooling and stagnancy on Any level. So that's cool, right? All three doshas refer to real things, and it was a biological science that was developed without knowing how every subtle function in the body works, but nailed a lot of it.

This book is worth every penny. Modern western doctors suggest to us that health is an esoteric religion that only comes at high cost, which was a joke from it's birth, and of course, pain management became a priority over curing because of one motivating factor dollar bills. So imagine a science of healing that developed without big monies involved and over (at least) thousands of years. Ayurveda and Chinese medicine are some of the only options for cures, not mere symptom management. These medicines did not develop with the focus of symptom management. A must have for any healthy household
  • Skip the digital edition. Illustrations and tables just did not get inserted properly. I started with the digital but ended up getting a hard copy.
  • During winter I was attacked with flu really bad and I decided to improve my health, so I purchased this book along with other book Ayurvedic Cooking with Self healing because I look at the source carefully before trusting the message, and that source is Dr Vasant Lad. He has PHD in Ayurvedic sciences from India and has tons of experience. Ayurveda is much different from western dietary recommendations, and I must say that “where science fails, Ayurveda works”.
My health improved, performance improved, I started recovering really well from workouts, and I also give tips my friends and family to improve their health as well. This book has tons of information and this is my go to book for almost any health issues.
I’d recommend to get Ayurvedic Cooking for Self Healing as well, as these two books complement each other very well.
  • I am not an ayurvedic practioner, therefore, sometimes I find difficult to understand some ayurvedic concepts. I rated this book with 5 stars precisely because it explains ayurvedic principles fluently and in a simply manner. In addition, this is also a practical manual with lots of simple home remedies for a wide variety of diseases.
  • I don't keep this one on my bookshelf----I keep it on a table by my favorite chair--I find myself looking things up in it at least a few times a week.
Some of the herbs I already had, but learned other benefits for them that I didn't know. I call this my natural remedy bible.
  • I have referred to this book for years whenever I have a cough or cold or upset stomach or, or, or. This was a gift to a friend. For those of you who don't run to physicians immediately and know that antibiotics are to be saved for real emergencies, this is a wonderful way to maintain your health and cure minor ailments by going to your spice cabinet. The Remedies work.
  • Love this book. It helps to have herbal and natural options to support the health.
  • The book is complete in that it talks about most common ailments and diseases and offers remedies for them. It does not go into much depth.
